Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 4 pieces. With right sides facing, place a 4 piece on the top left corner of the 9 piece. Stitch on the marked line. Trim ¼” away from the stitched line and press. Repeat on the top right and bottom right corners of the 9 piece. Join the 8 piece to the left side of the 9 piece. Join a 2 piece to the top of the 9 piece to form the stem unit. Join the 1 piece to the left side of the stem unit and join a 2 piece to the right side of the stem unit so that the stem unit measures 2 ½” x 6 ½” (4 ½” x 12 ½”) (6 ½” x 18 ½”) (8 ½” x 24 ½”). 2. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 7 pieces. With right sides facing, place a 7 piece on the top right corner of an 11 piece. Stitch on the marked line. Trim ¼” away from the stitched line and press. Make 2. 3. With right sides facing, place a 7 piece on the bottom right corner of a 13 piece. Stitch on the marked line. Trim ¼” away from the stitched line and press. Make 2. 4. Join a 13 piece from step three to the right side of a 13 piece to form the 13 unit which should measure 1” x 1 ½” (1 ½” x 2 ½”) (2” x 3 ½”) (2 ½” x 4 ½”). 5. Join a 13 piece from step three to the bottom of the 6 piece, rotating the 13 piece as pictured. Join an 11 piece to the left side of the 6 piece. Join the 13 unit to the top of the 6 piece to form the star unit which should measure 1 ½” x 2” (2 ½” x 3 ½”) (3 ½” x 5”) (4 ½” x 6 ½”). 6. Join a 13 piece to the bottom of an 11 piece, rotating the 11 piece as pictured, to form the 11 unit. Join the 11 unit to the right side of the star unit so that the star unit now measures 2” x 2” (3 ½” x 3 ½”) (5” x 5”) (6 ½” x 6 ½”). 7. Join a 12 piece to the top and bottom of the star unit. Join a 10 piece to the left and right sides of the star unit to form the pumpkin unit which should measure 3 ½” x 4 ½” (6 ½” x 8 ½”) (9 ½” x 12 ½”) (12 ½” x 16 ½”). 8. Mark a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 5 pieces. With right sides facing, place a 5 piece on the top left corner of the pumpkin unit. Stitch on the marked line. Trim ¼” away from the stitched line and press. Repeat on all remaining corners of the pumpkin unit. 9. Join a 3 piece to the bottom of the pumpkin unit. Join a 3 piece to the left and right sides of the pumpkin unit. Join the stem unit to the top of the pumpkin unit to form the finished block which should measure 6 ½” x 6 ½” (12 ½” x 12 ½”) (18 ½” x 18 ½”) (24 ½” x 24 ½”).
